Monica and I went to the
Blue Line Gallery in RSVL for Third Saturday (That's not a mistake, aside from the traditional Sacramento Second Saturday, RSVL has an alternate art day, just as Auburn has bi-monthly Thursday "Art Walks") to see the "Eccentric Imagery" show...and it was BRILLIANT. Mick Sheldon had paintings there, and the man knows how to go to extremes of texture while still finding a balance between those extremes. Plus, he demonstrates the effectiveness of limited color harmonies like it's as simple as breathing.
Other highlights included life sized "Rabbinoids" by Gerald Heffernon who were amazingly creepy in a sort of "Planet of the Rabbits" taxidermy sort of way, and some eerie ceramic heads with tongues that metamorphosed into snails or butterflies, and - since Christmas is inevitably on it's way - ornaments on a tree created by Nicholson Blown Glass...where my brother works, of course.
It was a pretty amazing show, and anyone in the area should try to make it by there. The show runs through January 10th, and the Blue Line is at 405 Vernon Street, Suite 100 in downtown RSVL.
